The book bearing the full title: “Memoirs of Jeanne d'Albert, Countess de Verrois, nicknamed the Queen of Voluptuousness,” was one of the most interesting stories described by the author. Countess de Verrois played a very important role at the Savoyard and French courts. She was a contemporary of eight popes: Clement X, Innocent XI, Alexander VIII, Innocent XII, Clement XI, Innocent XIII, Benedict XIII and Clement XII; three emperors: Leopold I, Joseph I and Charles VI; two kings of France: Louis XIV and Louis XV; two kings of Spain: Charles II and Philip V; four kings of England: Charles II, James II, William III and George I. She was acquainted with the Duke of Vendôme, Villeroy, Catinat, Villars, Prince Eugene, Voltaire, Marivaux, the regent, the Duke and Duchess of Maine, with all the eminent thinkers and all the valiant men of France. For ten to twelve years she was the official mistress of Victor Amedee. After her flight from Piedmont, maintaining old acquaintances in Turin, the Countess managed to establish new connections with Spain. And finally, her life had a romantic side, which perfectly corresponded to the genre of publications that readers loved so much.
