The outstanding German sociologist Armin Mohler (1920–2003), in his famous essay “Fascism as a Style” (1973), explores the problem of the typology of fascism and right-wing totalitarianism in general. He points out the one-sidedness and primitivism of both Marxist and liberal approaches to these phenomena of political life in Europe. Mohler calls a common feature of fascist regimes a specific style that determines the theory and practice of the “plague of the 20th century.”
