Автор майстерно передає атмосферу політичних інтриг середини І століття до н. е., коли кожен крок Цицерона може стати вирішальним для його життя. Читач відчуває напругу, з якою герой стикається, намагаючись знайти свій шлях серед ворогуючих сил. Вибір між Марком Антонієм і Октавіаном Августом стає не лише політичним, а й моральним випробуванням для Цицерона, що робить його історію ще більш захопливою.
