Successful writer Bardolph Gideon seeks solitude to write a new novel. For this purpose, he buys a house in the mountains from a relative, in which he spent several unhappy years as a child. To his indignation, upon arriving at the place, the writer finds Jennifer living there, the adopted daughter of the former owners. He is determined to get rid of the girl - this pathetic “mouse” has always evoked contempt in him with her stupid submissiveness and downtroddenness. But, involuntarily spending several days in Jenny’s company, Bardolph radically changes his opinion about her...
