Katherine Anne Porter (1890–1980) is a recognized classic of American literature of the 20th century, a representative of the “Southern school.” Porter gained worldwide fame from the novel “Ship of Fools” (1962), on which Stanley Kramer made his famous film. The collection includes Porter’s stories based on the impressions received during her trips to Mexico, and wonderful lyrical short stories about the white and black inhabitants of the American South.
