The book reveals the role and significance for besieged Leningrad of the battles on the external front of the blockade. The book is based on archival documents, memories of participants in the events, memoirs, and German sources. They make it possible to show with great reliability a dramatic picture of the hitherto little-known events of the Great Patriotic War, which unfolded in the east of the Leningrad region from the southern coast of Lake Ladoga to Novgorod. Some of the author’s assessments of events and personalities do not always coincide with the generally accepted ones, revealing in a new way the meaning of the battles in external front of the blockade in the battle for Leningrad, which indicates a new approach to the study of the history of the Great Patriotic War.
