Rabbi Nathan Slifkin is widely known for his pioneering work in the study of Judaism, his lectures on the deep interactions between the animal kingdom and the Torah, and his exploration of the connections between Judaism and the natural sciences. Noting the fact that the most important issues in classical Jewish literature are law and theology, the author draws attention to the mysterious creatures, fabulous monsters that are so often found in Scripture, the Talmud or midrashim. And in each case, Slifkin wonders whether this is a mythical description of a real animal or an erroneous interpretation, or perhaps a fairy-tale creature that never existed. Conducting his research from the point of view of theological interpretations, the author managed to remain within the framework of modern science, without focusing on the contradictions between scientific and religious worldviews.
