The summer of 1934 turned the life of Kharkov upside down. The terrible famine of recent years, which had not yet receded, and the growing wheel of repression, which had already affected, for example, the famous Slovo house, should not have distracted the townspeople from the main thing: in an atmosphere of both the strictest secrecy and general jubilation, preparations were being made to move the capital of Ukraine from Kharkov to Kiev. The departure of the government, as planned, was organized “at the highest level.” Thousands of workers are organizing a “spontaneous” farewell rally on the station square. Here are members of the Central Committee walking past the guard of honor onto the platform. The mourners solemnly sing along to the sounds of the International. It is not surprising that the brutal murder that happened at that moment initially went unnoticed. Due to duty, friendship, love and other aggravating circumstances, the heroes who are already loved by the reader from the book “Fouette on Bursatsky Spusk” are drawn into the investigation.
