The awakening was sudden. Usually I’m used to waking up for a long time, getting up slowly, listening to the sensations in my body. Fifty years is no joke anymore. It hurts here, it hurts here, now one thing, then another. It seems like I can throw all this out of my head and move on with my life... but now I feel too suspicious. Suspiciously easy. My body barely feels as if I am now twenty years old and I slept all night on a soft sofa, and not on the hard, rotten boards of the floor of a dilapidated village house. And the place is clearly different from where I fell asleep.
