The book is intended to acquaint Russian readers with the outstanding theoretical positions of modern narratology (the theory of storytelling) and offer solutions to some controversial issues. Historical overviews of key concepts serve primarily to describe relevant phenomena in the structure of narratives. Based on the characteristics of artistic narrative works (narrativeness, fictionality, aesthetics), the author focuses on the main issues of “perspectivology” (communicative structure of the narrative, narrative instances, point of view, the relationship between the narrator’s text and the character’s text) and plotology (narrative transformations, the role of timeless connections in the narrative text). In the second edition, aspects of narrative, event and eventfulness are developed in more detail. This book is a systematic introduction to the main problems of narratology.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
