Richard Bransom works at a secret military institute, from which employees have begun disappearing over the past two years. One day, while sitting in a cafe, Bransom heard a conversation between two drivers about the fact that the body of a woman who had been killed many years ago had been found near the city of Belston. Bransom suddenly remembers that twenty years ago he killed and buried a girl named Elaine Lafarque near Belston. Fearing retribution, Bransom goes on the run. But, like most criminals, he is drawn to the crime scene. Once in Belston, Bransom learns that no body was found here, and begins to doubt his memory. Who and why convinced Bransom that he was a murderer?
