However, as the nameless narrator, about whom we know almost nothing, begins to diligently study her lifestyle, habits and shortcomings, he becomes interested in the subject of his research. Soon this interest develops into an ardent feeling. In his characteristic manner, de Botton skillfully intersperses magazine tests and frankly parodic passages with fascinating reflections on the mechanisms of human memory and the subjectivity of our perception.
