“What kind of family do I have?” – Gretchen Zakmeier is amazed. Five walking Nightstands - that’s what they call her, her brother, sister and parents behind her back (and more). Not the most athletic, slender and fit. “But at least we love each other,” Gretchen reassures herself. One day, the Sackmeiers’ lives begin to fall apart at the seams, like the jeans they bought last summer. First, Mom goes on a diet - to Dad's horror. She then gets a job - much to his displeasure. And soon he moves out of their good old apartment altogether - and discontent turns into open anger: who will look after the house now?! Gretchen does not know what to do: after all, her own world is also changing - it seems that she has fallen in love. Or did you fall in love with her?..The trilogy of the Austrian writer Christine Nöstlinger (1936–2018) tells about several surprisingly bright years in the life of Gretchen. Having met the heroine as a fourteen-year-old, insecure, quiet woman who understands little about people, we see how she changes day by day - and becomes an adult. Or almost an adult. She is surrounded by informal friends, clueless suitors, and there are constant quarrels and reconciliations with her parents. She makes mistakes and corrects herself, and sometimes she acts in such a way that you involuntarily begin to be proud of her. All three parts of this big story of growing up and a multifaceted family saga are for the first time in Russian and under one cover. Sometimes funny, sometimes touching, the heroine inspires and makes you empathize - after just a few chapters she turns into a close friend.
