The novel “Goalkeeper of the Republic” by Lev Abramovich Kassil is one of the very first in our fiction and the most popular works on a sports theme.
Written in 1938, the novel was published both in the USSR and in a number of foreign countries countries The famous movie “Goalkeeper” was based on it.
The book not only tells a fascinating story about the glory and skill of Soviet athletes, but also gives a broad, unique picture of the life, quests and thoughts of the younger generation in the first two decades of the October Revolution. Much of what is said in the novel (the connection between work and sports, the life of an experienced youth workers' commune, issues of friendship, camaraderie, collectivism) echoes a number of moments in the lives of our youth today.
The author has prepared for this publication new edition addressed to middle and high school students.

Роман «Воротар республіки» Льва Кассіля — це не просто книга про футбол, це справжня епопея, яка відображає дух часу, в якому вона була написана. Автор майстерно поєднує спортивні змагання з глибокими соціальними темами, такими як колективізм, дружба та пошуки ідентичності молодого покоління в умовах змін. Читання цієї книги стало для мене захоплюючою подорожжю в минуле, де я зміг відчути атмосферу радянського спорту та життя. Особливо вразили персонажі, які були живими і реалістичними, кожен з них мав свою історію та мрії. Незважаючи на те, що роман написаний давно, його теми залишаються актуальними й сьогодні, що робить його ідеальним для молоді. Я б рекомендував цю книгу всім, хто цікавиться спортом, історією та соціальними питаннями!
