"Message from Arthur Gordon Pym." Edgar Allan Poe's only completed novel, first published exactly 180 years ago and still has not lost any of its dark charm or fascination. The great writer’s “signature” mix of brutal murders, black betrayal, boundless despair and, of course, Mystery, coupled with the romance of a classic sea adventure, in the finale turns into a clash with boundless Chaos and existential horror. All this, and most importantly, the deliberate incompleteness of Pym’s story, allowed Poe’s novel to become the primary source for other, no less original works - “The Ice Sphinx” by Jules Verne, “A Strange Discovery” by Charles Romijn Dyck and, of course, the inimitable “The Ridges of Madness” by Howard Phillips Lovecraft.
