The eighteenth novel from the History of Poland series “Stirrup” tells about the time of the Polish and Hungarian king Wladyslaw Varnenchik (1434–1444). This time the writer makes the famous Polish humanist Gregory of Sanok the main character of the novel. Wanting to study, Gregory runs away from his parents' house and enters the Krakow Academy. Thanks to his talents, he ends up in the royal court and becomes an unofficial adviser to the king and queen mother. The novel well shows the king's struggle for the Hungarian throne, as a result of which Vladislav becomes king of Hungary. The author also dwells in detail on the war with the Turks and the king’s last battle at Varna. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.
