V–VI centuries. from the Nativity of Christ. The Roman Empire is living its last days. Its western provinces (Aquitaine, Belgica and Celtica, making up Transalpine Gaul) are going through a difficult period. Left without centralized power, the western provinces can no longer resist the Frankish tribe, led by the young leader Clovis, who, seizing more and more Roman lands, unites them under his hand into a powerful kingdom. Clovis marries Clotilde of Burgundy, renouncing his beloved concubine and son Theodoric (Thierry) for her sake.
