Maxim Gorky (pseudonym of Alexei Maksimovich Peshkov; 1868–1936) is perhaps the most famous and at the same time the most “unread” writer of the 20th century. His creative heritage is huge and varied. In this volume, compiled on the basis of modern school literature curricula, readers will see the multi-faceted Gorky - not only the author of original prose and playwright, but also a poet and publicist. Perhaps those who graduated from school in Soviet times, together with their children, will discover a new image of this artist of words - capable of not only releasing the propaganda novel “Mother” on time, but also having insight into the innermost secrets of human nature and human community.

This article by the great Russian writer was first published in the Parisian weekly “Illustrated Russia” (1936. July 4, No. 28), shortly after the death of A.M. Peshkov (Gorky). Published by: Bunin I.A. Journalism 1918–1953. M., 1998. pp. 410–416.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
