The short story “Music in the Blood” (1983; “Hugo”-84; “Nebula”-83; Russian 1990) was converted into the novel “Music in the Blood” [Blood Music] (1985), called by critics the “End of Childhood” of the 80s." This is the story of the discovery of “intelligent cells” - noocytes; having first spread through the blood vessels of the scientist who discovered them, they turn him into a superman, and then, “infecting” the entire population of the Earth, they create a superorganism, nothing having nothing in common with man. B. inverts the views of O. Stapledon: the goal of the Supermind is not the stars, but the “inner space” of the infinitely small.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
