The collection of articles was prepared for the first anniversary of the armed conflict between Russia and Georgia, which occurred from August 8 to 12, 2008. The first article is devoted to the experience of military development in Georgia under President Saakashvili and contains a comprehensive description of the main directions of Georgia’s preparation for war. The second, and In fact, the central material is a detailed chronology of military operations. In its preparation, a variety of sources were used - from official chronicles and statements of senior officials, to memories and testimonies of participants in the conflict on both sides and Internet materials. The chronicle provides a detailed overview of all significant military operations and episodes. The third article of the collection is devoted to the military development in Georgia in the period after August 2008, the military situation and the balance of power that has developed in Transcaucasia to date. The other three articles discuss some particular aspects of the Five-Day wars – losses of the Georgian armed forces during hostilities; losses of Russian aviation in the war; arrangement of Russian military bases on the territory of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, recognized by Russia as independent states. The appendix to the collection provides brief summary data on Georgia’s purchases of the main types of heavy weapons and military equipment in the period 2000-2008.
