The Franco-German War of 1870–71 was one of the most important armed conflicts in European history, which largely predetermined the events of subsequent decades, including two destructive world wars. For a long time, in Russian historiography there was no general work that would consider all aspects of this clash between the two great European powers. This is precisely the goal set by the authors of this book, one of whom is a specialist in Germany, and the second in France of the corresponding period. Based on a wide source base and the latest achievements of world historiography, they present to the readers a work that examines all facets of the Franco-German War - from the actual fighting to diplomacy and society's reaction to the armed conflict.
