This book is based on the mostly never published English-language manuscripts of Irina Skaryatina (the main character of the series of novels “Worlds of the Era”), found by the translator in the archives of the library of Princeton University (USA), where they had been collecting dust for 60 years since the death of the author in 1962. The manuscripts tell the story of Irina’s most difficult long business trip as a military correspondent for the American magazine “Collier’s” (5 of her articles were published there) to the Soviet Union in 1942, praising the heroism and patriotism of the Soviet people in their great battle against the evil of Nazism. The total distance of Irina’s multi-day chain of flights from the USA to the USSR and back was about 50,000 kilometers. The route ran through South America, Africa and the Middle East, and its description contains a lot of interesting historical information, as well as information about British and American military bases, where Irina happened to visit along the way, which was the reason for the ban on publication of the book in the United States by American military censorship.
