In the novel “House,” Becker talks about the two and a half years she spent in the brothels of Berlin under the pseudonym Justine. The entire book is an ode to women in this profession. The most honest look from the inside. What do prostitutes and their countless clients, men, think, dream, say and remain silent about? Becker literally dissects both of them, simultaneously being in endlessly varied rooms with dim lighting and rising high above them. Frankly, touchingly, to the point, absolutely truthful. No secrets. “I wanted to experience a state where a woman is reduced to her most archaic function - to please men. To be just that,” Emma says of her experience. The novel is part of a new wave of women that has emerged in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
