The history of the emergence of cadet corps and cadet schools, the life of students, their participation in the white movement is spoken of in the memoirs of Anatoly Markov, a student of the Voronezh Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich of the cadet corps, and later of the Nikolaev Cavalry School. The fictional essays “Long-Suffering” vividly and dramatically tell about the cantonists, the morals that reigned in educational institutions that trained non-commissioned officers. Both books are interesting as historical evidence of how military-patriotic traditions of educating young men in pre-revolutionary Russia arose and accumulated.
