The outstanding Russian naval commander F. F. Ushakov (1745–1817) left a rich epistolary heritage. His letters, orders and notes have not been republished for more than 50 years and have become a bibliographic rarity. The published documents recreate the history of the Russian sailing fleet, the chronicle of its victories in the Mediterranean Sea at the end of the 18th century, reveal the personality of the famous admiral, who in 2004 was ranked among the clique of church-wide holy ascetics by the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church. The proposed collection of documents is of interest not only to specialists, but also for a wide range of military history buffs.
