Wehrmacht soldier Wilhelm Luebbeke began his military service in 1939 as a private and graduated as a company commander with the rank of lieutenant in 1945. He fought in Poland, France, Belgium, Russia, where he took part in the battles on the Volkhov River , in the corridor of the Demyansk Cauldron, near Novgorod and Lake Ladoga. And in 1944, together with his company, with exhausting battles, he retreated through the Baltic states in the direction of East Prussia. The author talks in detail about the difficult everyday life at the front and the details of a soldier's life, reflects on what Germany expected and what it received as a result of this war.
