“A large and rich country, with a population of almost two hundred million, was given over to the power of the “red yoke””: the destruction of army discipline on the Northern Front in the summer of 1917, the retreat of the Russian army, hunger, devastation and moral decay in the rear, the helplessness of the Provisional Government, the arbitrariness of the newly created Bolshevik government, the beginning of the Civil War - all these tragic events, of which Stepan Posevin himself was a participant, are the heroes of his autobiographical book. At the same time, historical parallels arise on its pages about “the influence of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania on the fate of Russia and the Russian people” and the author’s contemporary “promises of the Provisional Government about the creation of a vast Federal Republic of Lithuania.” The beginning of the “people's liberation movement from the Kuban free region” is intertwined with the “work of Admiral Kolchak” and the battles of the “valiant Czech legions during the liberation of the Russian people.”
