The book “Street Photography: Discovery of the Plane” talks about photography, the object of which is a person and his natural environment: city streets, squares, transport, cafes... in general, the term “street photography” or “street photography” is understood here so broadly that it covers almost all non-staged artistic photography. The theme of the book is the visual language of this photography, its history, the evolution of its ideas, the main currents and development trends. The text of the book is intended for an unprepared reader, but still reading it may require effort. This is inevitable: even a superficial acquaintance with any type of art is always a little like learning a new language. Let us immediately answer three questions that the reader might have - even if they never did.
First, why exactly? street photography, and how is it better than studio, portrait, and many others? Maybe not better - but, as the greatest photographer of the 20th century, Henri Cartier-Bresson, said, photography is “the pursuit of an elusive reality,” and it should not tear people out of their natural interaction with either the light, the environment, or the rapidly flowing over time...
Secondly, can non-staged photography, especially street photography, even be artistic? It turns out yes. It may or may not be artistic! – both an amateur photograph and an illustration for a newspaper article; and we will show this further.
Thirdly, thousands of books have already been written about photography; So does it make sense to spend your time on this one, and if so, why? The answer to this question depends on your goals and objectives. If your goal is to learn photography and digital processing techniques, then this book is not what you are looking for: it does not address technical issues. But perhaps it will help you understand that photography technique is not a goal, but a means, and think about what your goal really is. If photography for you is the gloss of magazine covers, then most likely this book is for you is not needed - because here we will talk about another beauty: about the one that is not visible to everyone. However, it is possible that you too will discover here something that you had not noticed before - or tried not to notice. If you are attracted and excited by a moment frozen in an old street photograph; if you are interested in the past and future of photography, and its place in contemporary art; if you want to understand the language she speaks today - the language of rhymes and rhythms, similarities and contrasts, signs and symbols, structures and metaphors...
Then this book is for you.
