This book is the result of many years of meetings between Ennio Morricone and the young composer Alessandro De Rosa. It reveals in a new way the work of Morricone, who is known to the Russian public mainly for his music for films such as “The Professional”, “Once Upon a Time in the West”, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. Morricone talks in detail about his life and brilliant career: his studies at the conservatory, the arrangements of many popular compositions and the creation of his own works, as well as his collaboration with the most famous Italian and foreign directors - from Leone to Pasolini, Bertolucci and Tornatore, from De Palma to Almodóvar and Tarantino. The maestro opens the doors of his creative laboratory for the first time, introducing the reader to his ideas and achievements. One of the most brilliant composers of our time, he tells us what composing music means to him, describes the connection between musical compositions and images in cinema, and his non-commercial creative experiments. Events from life are intertwined with the maestro’s professional remarks about music, and at the end of the book there are collected memories of those who had the opportunity to work with Morricone. On January 27, 2022, a new documentary film by Oscar-winner Giuseppe Tornatore, dedicated to Ennio Morricone “ENNIO,” was released in Italy. The book In Pursuit of Sound is the main source of the film, thanks to the participation of Alessandro De Rosa as composer and official biographer of the maestro.
