The name of the American writer Theodore Dreiser is familiar to readers all over the world primarily thanks to his famous novels, including “Sister Carrie” and “Jenny Gerhard”, “Genius” and “American Tragedy”, “Trilogy of Desire” and “Stronghold” . Meanwhile, Dreiser was also a very prolific short story writer. His creative legacy includes dozens of brilliant stories and essays. Largely autobiographical and sometimes anticipating the themes and conflicts of his novels, they clearly confirm the author’s maxim: “The job of a writer is not to judge, but to understand life and talk about it.” “Gallery of Women” (1929) features fifteen completely different heroines, each with their own destiny and life drama. Fifteen exciting stories written by the hand of a deep connoisseur of human nature, a bright, truthful artist and a fascinating storyteller. In this edition, “Gallery of Women” is presented as it was conceived by the author himself, and most of the stories are published in Russian for the first time.
