Paris, 1944. The dark years of the German occupation had just ended. Young, but already quite well-known to the public, Edith Piaf is preparing to present a new program at the legendary Moulin Rouge. However, the authorities suddenly charged the singer with collaboration and, it seems, are ready to impose a ban on her performances. Trying to prove his innocence, Piaf nevertheless continues rehearsals, simultaneously looking for performers “to warm up.” This is how she meets Yves Montand, a young and still unknown singer. Edith begins to work with Yves, developing and improving his talent. Soon, a bright and strong feeling flares up between colleagues on stage, from which they both draw inspiration, leading them to the pinnacle of success. But “you have to pay for happiness with tears.” These words from Piaf's famous chanson turned out to be prophetic...
