In the book “Uncle Fyodor, the dog and the cat. Fairy Tales" included five stories from the life of the Prostokvashino residents in the village. The very first, main story is about how the boy Fyodor, the cat Matroskin and the dog Sharik settled in Prostokvashino. The cat and the dog had previously had a life “full of hardships and expulsions,” and Uncle Fyodor himself left his parents because they did not understand how much their son loved animals and did not allow them to have them.
