Short and angry, like a blow from a Finnish woman in a gateway, the word “Afghan” entered the life of the country like a blade into the flesh of a body. First there was a blunt blow, surprise, and then pain and blood... After Afghanistan came perestroika, which brought in its wake the troubled times of collapse and devastation, Karabakh, Transnistria, Abkhazia and, finally, Chechnya. New times have given birth to new “heroes”, who were the first to smell the heady smell of huge money, immense and lawless Power, snatched what they had, quickly sold their souls to the Devil without much haggling. Who should an officer thrown out of the Army go with, a pilot who has lost the right to fly, a person whose very right to live, breathe, love is being taken away... To play by the new rules? To take revenge on life just as bloody, ferociously and vilely, without distinguishing between right and wrong? Or maybe try to start all over again, with a clean slate far away, overseas? But what was embedded little by little, absorbed into the blood, the brain, the heart no longer lets go, cripples, breaks...
