It could be called “notes of a hothouse boy” - happy is the one whose childhood was in the years of stagnation, whose father is an employee of the Central Committee, and whose mother is a French teacher in a special school. The boy’s world is not only Kuntsevo punks and Soviet hockey, but also summer in Jurmala and winter in boarding houses for the nomenklatura plebs. The background of the biography of this family is the history of the country itself: the repressions of the 1930s, the war, post-war students, sixties intellectuals... In this attempt at a “dictionary” of the Soviet era, almost every reader will recognize himself, the objects and concepts that made up the past.
