The monograph of the candidate of theology priest Vladislav Sergeevich Malyshev examines church and public journalism concerning the state of the clergy during the period of the “Great Reforms”. The monograph presents the different opinions expressed at that time on a number of issues important for the clergy: the life and morality of the parish clergy, the state of monasteries and monasticism, primary and secondary spiritual education, and also an analysis of church-journalistic polemics as a historical source. For the first time, archival data is being introduced into scientific circulation, which allows us to take a fresh look at the publications of the priest. I. S. Belyustin, D. I. Rostislavov, N. V.
