Literary success came to Muhammad Shukri in 1973 with the publication in the United States of Paul Bowles of an English translation of his novel “Naked Bread.” In the Arab world, the book was banned for a long time due to explicit scenes of violence. In Morocco, it was only allowed to be published in Arabic in 2000, and over the past decades it has been among the top five leaders in the book market. The story of childhood deprived of childhood evokes a keen reader response. It is translated into Russian for the first time.
