The novel “Z” is somewhat unusual both in content and form. The author called his work a fantastic chronicle of a murder. However, it talks about events that are by no means fantastic. Moreover, about such events that had a serious impact on the political situation in Greece today. During the Second World War, the Greek people, raised to fight by the Communist Party of Greece, selflessly fought against the Nazi invaders for the triumph of the ideals of freedom, independence, democracy and peace. But the people Greece failed to reap the benefits of victory over Nazi Germany and fascist Italy. When, under the pressure of Soviet troops advancing in the Balkans and under the blows of the Greek People's Liberation Army (ELAS), the Nazis were forced to leave Greece, British troops landed on the blood-washed land of ancient Hellas in October 1944. Greek democrats courageously tried to defend what was won in a brutal struggle against fascism. The growth of democratic forces caused alarm among the Greek rulers. And in order to intimidate the people, the authorities resorted to methods of political assassinations from around the corner. Vasilis Vasilikos talks about one of these murders in his book “Z.”
