Terry Gilliam is an uncompromising iconoclast of modern cinema, destroying myths about what is and is not possible in mainstream cinema with each of his films. The definition given by Stanislaw Lem to Philip K. Dick is fully applicable to him: “a visionary among charlatans” (and it is no coincidence that many of Gilliam’s unrealized projects include film adaptations of Dick’s works). His animated inserts gave a unique integrity to the famous television series of the comic group “Monty Python”; Johnny Depp (“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”), Brad Pitt with Bruce Willis (“Twelve Monkeys”) and Jeff Bridges played their best roles. (“The Fisher King,” “Tideland”), and his blockbusters “Brazil” and “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” became famous for the epic scale of not only the production effects, but also the subsequent battles with the studio bosses. It was him who JK Rowling saw as the director of the Harry Potter films, and it was him who Slava Polunin entrusted with the scenography of his recent program “Diablo”. In a series of conversations brought to your attention, Gilliam talks about how the Pythons searched for the Holy Grail and the meaning of life, how the Time Bandits traveled from Napoleon to Agamemnon, how a series of natural disasters prevented Johnny Depp from becoming “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” ", as the role of Heath Ledger, who had already played for Gilliam in The Brothers Grimm and died on the set of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, was played by Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law - and thus saved the production (the film will be released in Russia in early 2010 ).
