Tim Burton is deservedly considered an icon of the gothic subculture and the main inventor of world cinema. The unforgettable images he invented, hilarious, unthinkable and creepy, would be more than enough for a dozen directors: the hooligan evil spirits in Beetlejuice (1988), the twisted Joker mask in Batman (1989), the unfortunate Edward Scissorhands (1990) , the giggling aliens who rip out the heart of the US President, in Mars Attacks! (1996), the bleeding tree in Sleepy Hollow (1999), and finally, Corpse Bride (2005) in all its graveyard glory. At the 2006 Venice Film Festival, Burton was awarded an honorary Golden Lion "for his contribution to the art of cinema." This collection is a translation of the most recent, third edition of the book of conversations between Tim Burton and his old friend Mark Salisbury, former editor of the London magazine "Empire" and author of a number of popular film studies books (for example, “Behind the Mask: Secrets of Hollywood's Monster Makers”). The collection is prefaced by two forewords by Johnny Depp, another old friend, who received his “star ticket” from Burton in “Edward Scissorhands” and has just appeared in their sixth collaboration, the film version of the musical “Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” "(2007).
