Irish writer and journalist Maeve Binchy (1940–2012) is well known not only in her homeland, but throughout the world. Peru Binchy, in addition to short stories, owns 16 novels; her books have consistently become bestsellers and have received prestigious international awards more than once. In the 1970s, Binchy published three collections of short stories, and quite successfully, but her real fame came with the release of her first novel, Light a Candle (1982).
