This book is a collection of articles devoted to the problems of church life and church-state relations of the era of Emperor Nicholas II. Some of the materials presented are published for the first time; Most of the works were published in small-circulation editions and are currently inaccessible to the general reader. The articles that make up the book touch on topics that were not covered in the author’s monographs “The Orthodox Church and the State in the Last Decade of the Existence of Autocracy in Russia” (St. Petersburg, 1996) and “The Russian Church on the Eve of Change (1890s-1918)” (Moscow, 2002). The book is intended for historians and religious scholars, as well as for everyone interested in the history of Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church in the last period of the Empire.
