The author of the book, Henriette Guizot (married de Witt) (1829–1908) is the daughter of an outstanding public figure, historian and philosopher Francois Guizot. For many years she worked with her father, was his secretary, and also wrote historical novels, translated Shakespeare and Dickens into French, and was engaged in publishing. “History of France” (from ancient Gaul to Napoleon’s Russian campaign) was created in 1889 on the basis of fundamental F. Guizot’s five-volume work “History of France for Children.” On the pages of the book, the bright heroes of French history come to life - here are Henry IV, and Louis XIV, and Mazarin, and Richelieu, and Napoleon, and many others.
