Hidden in the tropical forests of Brazil is Canca, the most beautiful city in the world in the shape of a human head. Only thermometers live there. To get there, you need to meet Captain Baran, who has two identical bodies and one soul, a girl who is a steam locomotive, a nun who turns into a Parisian detective, blind sailors, shameless sweater knitters and Ulf, who opens other people's letters.
For the first time in Russian - a surreal epistolary novel by the Austrian playwright Wolfgang Bauer (1941–2005). There are more and more thermometers, the temperature rises, the huge head glows with heat.
Wolfgang Bauer in his youth was the only genius in Austria. Peter Handke
Wolfgang Bauer was an extremely serious author, otherwise he would not could produce such a comic effect. He was always serious as death. Elfriede Jelinek
Imagine, naked Fanny, in the throes of giving birth, lay down between two tulips and immediately gave birth. But instead of a child on the grass in front of her, I saw a newborn thermometer - my thermometer: he screamed, howled and writhed as if in pain. Then the branches cracked in the forest, and a tall spruce tree collapsed before my eyes. My friend Ferdinand Schuller came out of the forest, in a tuxedo, with a long carpenter's pencil in his hand. He walked quickly across the clearing and stopped next to the newly born Fanny, whose outlines had already begun to blur. Then he bent down to the newborn thermometer (which had already grown noticeably) and wrote on it in pencil.
