The book “True stories of the Jewish town of Chernyakhov” was written based on the diaries of an amazing person, Idl Aizman. He lived in Chernyakhov before the war; the story of his life is truthfully reflected in the story “Aronchik”. Being at a very old age, he and his family moved to Israel and for twenty years kept diaries, remembering all the dead and surviving residents of this town. And this is the feat of Grandfather Izy, as everyone called him. Five years ago, Idl Eizman passed away. At our last meeting, three months before his departure, grandfather Izya handed me the diaries with the words: “You know what to do with this.” This is how this book was born. The stories are reliable, but I gave them the form of literary stories, rarely changing first and last names, since there were inaccuracies in Idle Aizman’s diaries. And sometimes I allowed myself to take a few liberties with the plot, but I did this only so that you would not be bored reading, or to somehow brighten up the terrible narrative that defies any logic.
