John Dos Passos (1896–1970) is one of the greatest writers in the United States. Original literary experiments, a unique creative style, and the search for new novel forms earned him fame as an experimental artist, and the novels he created made Dos Passos a lifetime classic of American literature. In the novel “Manhattan” there is a phantasmagoric city and a person with all the hopes and disappointments, ups and downs, the fate of people against the backdrop of the tragic confusion of existence. “Manhattan” will remain relevant as long as there are huge cities with millions of people living in them, no matter how time changes their appearance. Because each such city has its own dangerous Manhattan, in which a person is often defenseless and alone and so in need of respect, sympathy and support.
