The book about the life and work of Sándor Ferenczi (1873–1933), one of the pioneers of psychoanalysis, who was a student, patient, friend and confidant of Sigmund Freud, was written by a full member of the Paris Psychoanalytic Society, a famous historian of the psychoanalytic movement, Thierry Bokanowski. Based on biography and analysis of Ferenczi’s fruitful theoretical and clinical work, the author convincingly and comprehensively shows his innovative contribution to the formation and development of the ideas of psychoanalysis. The excerpts from a number of Ferenczi's major works at the end of the book demonstrate such distinctive features as courage and originality of mind, lack of dogmatism and poetic inspiration.
