A descendant of an ancient noble family remained in the history of the 20th century as the last Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the South of Russia during the Civil War. The novel-chronicle of the modern writer-historian S. Karpenko tells the story of the life and fate of one of the leaders of the White movement, General Pyotr Nikolaevich Wrangel (1878-1928). The central place is occupied by a detailed account of the period from January 1918 to February 1919: at this time, Wrangel joined the Volunteer Army, quickly rose to the rank of senior commanders and gained wide popularity among the troops and in the rear.
