In the city of Los Angeles in the south of California, twenty-three-year-old Jessica Carver, who works for the police as an assistant detective, lives in a large two-story house. One day, on an ordinary quiet evening, her pregnant, twenty-year-old cousin Julia shows up to the girl, asking her to shelter her for a couple of days while she is in a quarrel with her boyfriend. Jessica agrees without hesitation and lets her sister into the house. That same night, the girls wake up from a strange noise coming from the first floor.
