The German writer Oskar Meding (1829-1903), known in Russia under the pseudonym Georgy, Georg, Gregor Samarov, a talented diplomat, memoirist, journalist and scientist, left a whole library of historical novels. In the novel “At the Court of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna”, which belongs to the “Russian cycle”, along with adventurous, often unknown, episodes in the royal biographies of Elizabeth, Catherine II, Peter III, the writer tried to comprehend the 18th century in the destinies of Russia and glimpse its future significance in business unraveling the knots tied by diplomats of a brilliant century.
