This book, created by a team of authors, employees of the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, was published in Bratislava in English and addressed primarily to foreign readers. It gives a vivid, holistic picture of all the main stages of the historical development of the Slovak people from ancient times to the present day. For many centuries, the Slovak lands were part of the Kingdom of Hungary, and after 1918 - the Czechoslovak Republic, therefore the historical destinies of Slovakia are considered in the book in a complex, contradictory context and organic connection with the history of the neighboring peoples of Central Europe. The book was translated into Russian by - with the exception of one section - from the original manuscript in Slovak, kindly provided by colleagues from the Institute of History of the SAN. “A Brief History of Slovakia,” written from a modern scientific perspective, will undoubtedly attract the attention of not only students and teachers of historical disciplines, but also numerous Russian readers who are keenly interested in the fate of the Slavs.
